Hello Tux users! The TruckersMP Team get questions about Linux support, however, supporting another platform is not an easy task, and because of this, the mod isn't supported on Linux distributions. However, there is a workaround to install and use TruckersMP with some tools. DISCLAIMER: This is not an official support article, and TruckersMP Team cannot assist you if any problem occurs. Also, keep in mind, that the steps are not harmful to your installation, but if you mess up, I'm not responsible for any action you have done. Getting Started Linux Distro compatibility This forum post should work on any Linux distro, but because I can't test that on every variant of OSes, I can't guarantee that your installation will work instantly after you follow the steps. In that case, please leave a comment, and I'll help you, and post the solution in this post. The tutorial should work on: Debian-based distros (Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Pop_OS, elementaryOS, etc) Red Hat-based distros (Fedora 39 is working well, I tested that) Arch-based distros (Yes, it should work on Steam Deck as well) In this post, I'll use Fedora 39 for a reference. Necessary packages Luckily, there is a tool called truckersmp-cli, which gives a list of necessary packages for us. However, the post is not about that tool, but for more advanced users, I can recommend messing around with it. You will need the necessary packages to install the mod on your system: Steam (Flatpack version should work, too!) steam-devices (for controller support) SDL2 Wine (Installing Lutris should give all the necessary files for you, and also a good tool to add other games from Windows-only stores, like Epic Games) Updating your system Before you do anything, make sure your operating system is up-to-date. To do that, follow the commands below: For Debian-based distros: sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade For Red Hat-based ones: sudo dnf update For Arch-based one: sudo pacman -Syu Install the necessary packages If you already have the packages, then you can skip this part. For Debian-based distros: sudo apt install steam steam-devices wine sdl2 For Red-Hat based ones: sudo dnf install steam steam-devices wine SDL2.x86_64 For Arch-based one: yay steam steam-devices wine sdl2 There is a chance, that you need to alter the command a little bit or use other commands to install the packages. Setting up Steam and the games The TruckersMP is not working with Linux binaries, so you need to use the Windows version of the game. To do that, we will use Proton: Open Steam In the left corner, click on Steam -> Settings -> Compatibility Enable Steam Play for all other titles Restart Steam Then go to your Library and do the following for ETS2/ATS: Right-click on the game -> Properties -> Compatibility Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool Select Proton Experimental If you have already installed the game, then Steam will download it again with the necessary Windows binaries. If not, then you can install the game now. You will need the location of the game to make the launcher work. Locating the game folder: Right-click on the game -> Properties -> Installed Files -> Browse Copy the location of your game installation Mine loos like this: /home/<username>/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Euro Truck Simulator 2/ You will need that later. Install TruckersMP Launcher This is where wine comes in. Without wine, you can't run .exe files on your Linux distro, so with this compatibility layer, you can do that too! Go to the TruckersMP website and download the launcher installation: https://truckersmp.com/download After you download the file, open the terminal, and navigate to the downloaded file. You can use the cd command to navigate to the Downloads folder: cd Downloads Then, run the TruckersMP-Setup.exe file with wine like this: wine TruckersMP-Setup.exe A window will pop up that will say Wine setting up itself. If it asks you to install stuff, just say yes and proceed. We only use Wine to extract the necessary files for us, so the launcher won't start with it, in the terminal, this is what you get: Simply just press Ctrl + C and ignore this error message. Add the Launcher to Steam After that, we will use Steam Proton, to simply launch the mod you need to follow these steps: Open Steam In the left corner: Add a Game -> Add a Non-Steam Game... A new window popped up, simply click on Browse... Click on your home directory The launcher is installed in a hidden folder, you need to press Ctrl + H to unhide the files and folder Mine is installed here: /home/<username>/.wine/drive_c/users/<username>/AppData/Local/TruckersMP/ Select TruckersMP-Launcher.exe After that, you need to go to your Library and do the same steps you had to do for ETS2/ATS as well in the Compatibility tab. Start the Launcher, and change the settings Open the launcher in Steam with the big green PLAY button. You will get the following: Don't worry that's why we located the game's location. Go to Settings, and change the game's path to the following: Z:\<games-path> of ex.: Z:\home\<username>\.local\share\Steam\steamapps\common\Euro Truck Simulator 2 Important! You will need to use backslash "\" instead of slash "/". This is a necessary step to take! After that, click on Save, and go back to "Play". Download the updates, and it should look like this now: Last Step: Enjoy! Simply, press the play button, and the game should start without any problem. What is working? The following things are working without any issues: Euro Truck Simulator 2 American Truck Simulator Xbox Game Controller Steam Overlay DirectX11 Things which should work but haven't been tested: Season Mods ProMods Client Themes Things are not working at that moment: Plugins, like job trackers (Needs redis files, still haven't figured out how to install them) For any issue, please leave a comment, and we will figure out. If you have solutions for us, feel free to share here, and I'll try to add some of them into the main post. I hope this forum post will help you, and finally you can enjoy the game on your favorite Linux distribution!10 points

Hi there! Thanks for your questions. Our Human Resources team was introduced a few years back and after a short time, it was decided that it did not meet our expectations. We trialed moving more tasks from the shoulders of managers and giving them more time for other tasks. However, many managers prefer doing interviews and recruitment sessions themselves as it can give them more insights into who is joining their team. Earlier this year, we changed the way team changes are visualized on the forum as with multiple roles and different ways of joining and leaving a team, it became more and more confusing for both managers and players when writing/reading such a post. The format we are using now was preferred by the majority involved in the rework. Thanks for your interest!3 points

Is this because you've got 5 current active bans that you're saying this? If people break the rules and other people see this happening then they've absolutely got the right to report the person breaking said rule(s). If the person gets banned becasue of it then it's on them for not following the rules.2 points

Hi, TruckersMP is a modification for a simulation game - we aim to simulate reality and realistic conditions. However, it is still a game and we have to accept that there are limitations to how seriously we can take the simulation aspect: We can't require a driver's license to play the game, we can't enforce real currency fines for driving offenses and we cannot moderate every single incident instantly. Over the years, we have made our rules stricter, and easier to understand, and changed how we issue bans to a fair and standardized procedure. However, we have also offered players the opportunity to express their driving preferences in various ways by adding support for ProMods for more challenging roads, by adding arcade servers where no road rules are applied, and by removing the speed limit from one of our simulation servers. Ultimately, many players opted to remain on the one simulation server with a 110 km/h speed limit and enforced road rules. Why don't we enforce stricter speed limits? In reality, European trucks are usually physically limited to 110 km/h and legally to 80-95 km/h. We believe 110 km/h is a fair (and yet realistic) speed limit. We have seen a significant reduction in incidents since bringing back this speed limit a few years ago. I don't believe that reducing it further will reduce accidents. You mention 'a better punishment system like IRL has [with fines and license suspensions]'. We suspend people from driving by issuing a temporary ban on the first few offenses for most rule violations. I believe this is quite realistic. We did explore the idea of charging in-game currency fines for offenses but few players would are seriously scared of losing money in-game as it's easy to make or cheat back. We have considered the idea of a 'hardcore sim' server with a 95 km/h speed limit which would require a significant amount of in-game hours to join (e.g. 500 hours in ETS2). However, we believe that this defeats our purpose as an MMO modification. We want you to have fun with your friends while delivering cargo across Europe. By separating players more, we lose the MMO aspect. If you want to play the game's 'hardcore' simulation rules, you can opt to play SCS Software's Convoy mode where you can set the rules and only let your trusted friends come near you. If you have relevant suggestions that have a worked-out concept of how we can get closer to the described goal, let me know! We are always welcoming descriptive and constructive suggestions. Thanks for your question!2 points

Literally all I see is rec or complaining in the chat. Like how can someone have fun in a video game when the entire time they are looking for someone to report.1 point

Hey @Stones8000, Thank you for your question. The general rule is 1 event per month (aka monthly event), however, this is not a solid restriction as we allow VTCs and event groups to host extra events outside their monthly events, such as for their anniversary, or seasonal events. With that said we unfortunately can not turn around and simply allow all VTCs and event groups to host 2 (or more) events per month for example as we simply do not have server capacity for this currently. It is very much expected that if some VTCs begin hosting more than one event regularly, a large influx of other VTCs and event groups will wish to do the same. We have previously allowed some verified VTCs to host more than one event server in a month for a special occasion such as their anniversary (so they hosted a 2 part week/weekend event). They have had the option to host one on the weekend and one in the week (Mon-Thu) or they can wait until closer to the time to see if a second server is available to host both on the weekend (Fri-Sun). This is to allow other VTCs and event communities to get a chance to host an event that weekend too. (Please note this is only reserved for Verified VTC at this time) If a VTC wished to host a monthly convoy and then host a Christmas special event or Halloween special for example, we have no concerns here as long as it does not turn into a monthly thing. We have had VTCs in the past do a similar thing to this, so they ended up hosting maybe 14 event servers in the year rather than 12. (Please take note that a "special" would require 100 sign-ups as it is not part of your monthly circuit.) It is important to emphasise that we are restricted with how many event servers people can host a month as we only have a set amount of servers. To give you an idea, we have 5 servers based in Europe for community events and 1 server set in North America which can be used upon request. This means we can only host 6 events concurrently (Often only 5 unless the NA server is used). We are already at a point where sometimes we are running at capacity on a weekend (between Friday-Sunday) and this has been seen to be happening more regularly over the past few weeks/months, so even allowing just verified VTCs (this is around 60) the option to host 2 event servers each month would result in an average of 2 extra event servers every single day which is simply not fair on everyone else who wishes to host an event and would need to fight to gain an event server. As you are likely aware we have previously approved some VTCs to host weekly event servers, so I will touch on this below too: RLC was previously granted weekly servers for their events for a long period of time, however, they did not receive this easily. Their events were run on a public server every week for over a year with 200-300+ attending every single week. This proved to Event Management that a public server was not fit for these events as it was not only affecting their event, it was also affecting general players who were just free roaming on our public servers. As a result, their servers were automatically granted under "Required to ensure non-attendees will not suffer from the event (at the Event Management’s discretion)". We would not allow a weekly server for an event group or VTC for just meeting 50/100 confirmed sign-ups, they would need to prove over a long period of time that they are constantly receiving high attendance which is affecting general players on the server. This would then need to be heavily reviewed and frequent audits conducted by Event Management to help judge the situation. To conclude, we constantly monitor our server activity to review how we can ensure everyone who meets our requirements can gain an event server, and we adjust our event request requirements where necessary to ensure that events that meet our high expectations can continue to gain a server. However, as our server usage is continually rising it is not possible at this time to make any big changes on how many events, VTCs can host per month. I hope this gives you a better insight and if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact us. Thanks, Velo1 point
