I think I have found a hard drive I can use to replace the defective Maxtor HD in my old computer. It's a 40GB IDE Samsung I had in storage and it did not present any bad blocks or S.M.A.R.T alerts in the tests I ran.

Right now I am using Norton Ghost to clone the whole old HD into an image and then I am going to apply that image to the "new" hard drive so I won't have to format it and install both operating systems and set up them all over again. Hope the old Maxtor will work long enough so the cloning process is successful.

I had to stop eating clocks, it was too time consuming.
