trafic in multiplayer game

hello my suggestion is to insert the IA trafic because i think it will calm a lot of people who do not respect the rules

There was a poll about this on Facebook like a month ago or so. And about 85% people wanted this if I remember correctly. The fact that they're polled this probably means that it would be possible, now we just have to hope for it to come ^^.

I would like it too if the amount of cars can be decreased at busy places.

Edit, found it: http://strawpoll.me/2817363

I don't know how to copy a facebook post, but it was posted on the 19th of October. https://www.facebook.com/ets2mpofficial?fref=ts

I'm fine without the ai. But if they were to get the ai on multiplayer I would be hopeful that they would have a limited amount of ai cars on the roads/highways. But I don't think we need the ai or else it would cause server lag to keep ai cars in sync and maybe lag to players with low performance computers because then the computer needs to focus on trucks and ai cars and render for the world. So my answer for this is no.

Well, let's take a look at Need for Speed: World. They have AI, right? But it's not synced between players so ... others might not see what I see and they might throw a car in front of me while I could do the same ... Imagine a truck going with 90km/h, throwing a car in front of you, you get damage, maybe you have someone behind you, I don't know, would that be a good experience? No.

If the AI is not synced between players, then, no point in having it, long term it will be an unpleasant experience overall.

It is not easy to enable AI traffic in multiplayer. First of all, AI traffic needs to be sync between *ALL* multiplayer clients, because otherwise you can start overtaking an AI truck in  your game, while another MP client only sees you're truck, don't expect your action to overtake and as a result a collision could happen.

Currently you're MP client only sends your location to the server and that is relayed to the other clients. You might think how hard is it to also send the locations of my AI trucks, right? Well, ever driven around Rotterdam/EP between 18:00 and 22:00 CEST and noticed the lag in your game. Imagine that each player also has an average of 5 AI trucks. Than the traffic jam would start all the way in Dusseldorf or so.

So in order to have AI traffic in multiplayer the developers need to write AI traffic bots that exists on the MP server. But unlike the regular game they need special rules. For example they should only spawn in areas with little mp clients. The current the primary MP server can handle 5000 clients (or at least the counter goes that high). It's is not uncommon that more than 3000 clients are connected. Let's day that at this moment 3215 clients are connected. If the server would spawn 1785 AI trucks, the server would reject new clients because the server is full. However that number of 5000 clients is based on simply relaying truck info to clients. A single AI truck bot need more resources on the server than a real MP client. The devs might use or create another server that would only handle the AI traffic. It is not only that AI traffic should be spawn at busy areas, but AI trucks often also have very little conflict resolution capabilities. It would be the first time that AI traffic totally blocks you in single player mode. That should *NEVER* happen in a MP game. In single player, you can just save and reload and the AI traffic is gone. Tricks like that don't work when a server (e.g. not your computer) is controlling the bot. The AI trucks are also prohibited to drive to busy areas.

So, while it may be a feature that allot of player would like to see, it is a very difficult feature to develop. On the other hand GTA and CoD also don't have AI objects in multiplayer mode.

I rather see the penalty option enabled on to get player obey the rules. So speeding or running a red light costs you money.. Using your beacon while you're not hauling an oversized load, you get a penalty. You use your horn on every single player you encounter in the game: perma ban for life. Using the horn is only to appropriate to signal others about potential danger. Flashing you're lights is the way to greet someone you know.. But maybe I take the simulation part too serious..

They did a vote if the community wanted traffic or not. Majority wanted traffic. Now lets just wait and see what happens.

I think that they suggested adding Ai ghost traffic which would sort out the no sync problem... but would it still take up a lot of hardware?

the ai ghost would only be running on the client side right? not on the server

I don't know to be honest.. I guess so and then it shouldn't be that more taking on your PC than the singleplayer?
