Hi, The Free Camera is very useful in game for various purpose. I Played on a Laptop and the keyboard did not have any NUM keys. It was a problem for me for a long time until i found the solution.

If you have a Keyboard like this Follow the steps Below. (Laptop/Compact Keyboard)

Enable Free Camera:

  • Go to Documents Folder & Open Euro Truck Simulator 2 Folder.
  • Open “config.cfg“ file with the text editor.
  • Now look for the entry “uset g_developer” and “uset g_console” and change there the value from “0” to “1“.
  • To increase the speed of the camera change to this value (  “uset_g_flyspeed” 100.0 ”  )
  • Save the file and Free Camera is activated.

Change Camera  Control: Your config line values may differ

  • To change the control go to Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\profiles\6DGGV546HGHG543R80 [Your Profile]
  • Open " controls.sii " file with the text editor and Change the values according to your preference.

config_lines[86]: "mix dbgfwd `keyboard.num8?0`"

 config_lines[87]: "mix dbgback `keyboard.num5?0`"

 config_lines[88]: "mix dbgleft `keyboard.num4?0`"

 config_lines[89]: "mix dbgright `keyboard.num6?0`"

 config_lines[90]: "mix dbgup `keyboard.num9?0`"

 config_lines[91]: "mix dbgdown `keyboard.num3?0`"

  • Save the file and Free camera controls are changed.

Hello,

Your explanation is great. Thank you for your work to tell us this, but I want to switch this to my Xbox 360 controller too, but I don't know what to write in it (what are the commands for the controller). ?????

greetings

Hello,

Manual:

Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\steam_profiles

Your profiles should be there ?

No need to disable Steam Cloud saving, the "controls.sii" file will be in the profile folder inside steam_profiles. To make the free camera controls use the XBOX 360 gamepad you'd need to find out what the controls are named, usually they will be something like joy.b1, joy,pov1_up, etc. You'd change keyboard.numX by the corresponding joy.X function you want. It can be a little tricky to find them though.

Hello dear @Limo44[SK]

Could you please contact me via Forum private message, there you can explain me everything. This  section is for guides, not for helping like with some issues questions regarding TMP and ETS/ATS game. I do not wanna spamm it here.

I will help you with it.

Ik that this is old and nobody might respond but is there a way to use arrow keys instead of numbers?

Sure you can, find and change the lines:

"mix dbgfwd `keyboard.num8?0`"

"mix dbgback `keyboard.num5?0`"

"mix dbgleft `keyboard.num4?0`"

"mix dbgright `keyboard.num6?0`"

To be like this:

"mix dbgfwd `keyboard.uarrow?0`"

"mix dbgback `keyboard.darrow?0`"

"mix dbgleft `keyboard.larrow?0`"

"mix dbgright `keyboard.rarrow?0`"

but don't you think it will clash with the already assigned keys ?
Like for instance, somebody has already assigned the 'up' arrow key for Throttle and 'down' arrow key for Brake?!

The question I answered to was about changing the default numpad keys in order to use the arrow keys to move the camera. Of course, if someone is using the arrow keys for any purposes, they'd need to change to different ones. Myself, I changed them to WASD, since I don't use these ones to drive, having a steering wheel.

Can this guide be updated for 1.48? I did the exact steps, until sorting through the controls.sii file, I see that the config lines have changed. Lines 86. to 91 are no longer the same as in the guide

Ignore the lines numbers. Just search for the specific configuration, which by default is:

"mix dbgfwd `keyboard.num8?0`"

"mix dbgback `keyboard.num5?0`"

"mix dbgleft `keyboard.num4?0`"

"mix dbgright `keyboard.num6?0`"

And you change num8, num5, num4 and num6 to any unused keys you desire. I used WASD, so it looks like this:

"mix dbgfwd `keyboard.w?0`"
"mix dbgback `keyboard.s?0`"
"mix dbgleft `keyboard.a?0`"
"mix dbgright `keyboard.d?0`"
