Cannot find my documents directory

der super Hund

Question

Hello

Sorry for my bad english. I made this with Goggle translator

When I will start with playing ETS 2, I get I get the following error message: ''Cannot find my documents directory'. I has chosen the right path(/file?) with which Steam also accesses the game.

the problem is: It is a special path(/file?) because I used the ,,homedir" help to start the Game because it didn´t start with the normal way.

When I installed TruckesMP I used the homedir path(/file?) because the installer didn´t see the game on the original path (/file?)

Jet when I start TruckersMP, I get the error message.

What can I do, to play the Game?

Hello @der super Hund

Select the place where you installed your Euro Truck Simulator2 , Usually C:\Program Files (x86)\ Steam\steamapps\common\Euro Truck Simulator 2

Or:
-In your Steam library, right click on ETS2/ATS and then select 'Properties'.

-Select 'Local Files' tab and then click 'Browse Local Files'.

-Copy the directory path that opens into the installer

Hello der super Hund,

if nothing of the previouly posted tips work I would suggest you reinstalling the game. This time though I would recommend you installing it in the Local Drive(C:)/Programs(x86)/steam/steamapps/commons

Maybe it works after reinstalling. The only option that I could imagine you could try before doing that would be to try repairing your game via Steam. Maybe it has an internal error.

1. Go to the library

2. Right-click on Euro Truck Simulator 2

3. Click on ''properties''

4. Click to ''local data"

5. Click on ''Verify Integrity of Game Files"

I hope I could help you :)

Best regards

Hello there, Firstly follow this path:

Step 1:

  • Open Steam and go to your Library > Games
  • Make a right click on Euro Truck Simulator 2 and open Properties
  • After the Properties window has opened click on Local Files tab and press Browse Local Files
  • A folder with game files will open. Copy all of this folder and create a new folder(Euro Truck Simulator 2) in the Local Disk : D (or  :C, :E) section.

Copy the game folder address from Step 1 (After the Properties window has opened click on Local Files tab and press Browse Local Files. A folder with game files will open. )

then, follow these steps

Step 2:

  • Run Windows command prompt as administrator.
  • A black box with a flashing cursor will open.
  • Run the step following:

mklink /d D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Euro Truck Simulator 2\temp C:\Euro Truck Simulator 2\

This, Will create a folder named 'Euro Truck Simulator 2' inside your regular Local Disk : D folder that points to C:\Euro Truck Simulator 2\.

Copy your harddisk game files from the regular folder to C:\Euro Truck Simulator 2\.

Test if the symbolic link is working by accessing: D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Euro Truck Simulator 2*temp*

Now, Rename or delete your original game folder. (D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Euro Truck Simulator 2\)

Rename the temp folder as game folder: "\temp" to --> \Euro Truck Simulator 2.

Now your game folder inside D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Euro Truck Simulator 2 should point to C:\Euro Truck Simulator 2\ where the actual game files are.

A similar example: moving the my documents(profiles) folder to another HDD.

I did both things but it still doesn't want to start. Always the same mistake. I think I should also say that after I have clicked away this error message, a second error message appears:  ,,the game filesystem failed to initialize, aborting now."    Both error messages do not appear in the single player and the game starts normally. These error messages only come in multiplayer

Dear @der super Hund,

To fix the error "he game filesystem failed to initialize, aborting now" follow next steps:

  • Restart your computer
  • To do this, click Start, type Command Prompt or cmd in the Search box, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. (or Win+R) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
  • At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow
  • Do not close this Command Prompt window until the verification is 100% complete. The scan results will be shown after this process is finished.
  • Restart your computer
  • Run multiplayer with administrator rights
