Rework to the ban system

Suggestion Name:

Reworking the ban system

Suggestion Description:

I feel like the current ban system could be improved in many ways, from making bans easier to understand, as well as improving the speed at which punishments are handed out.

As it stands, the first three bans are issued at admin discretion, which leaves a lot of room for interpretation depending on the offence caused. There's also an issue of admin bias at play; obviously this is hard to quantify, but say an admin is having a bad day, they may punish a user longer than what the offence deems necessary. This is something that isn't avoidable by anyone, as it's just human nature to react with your feelings.

My proposed solution is to implement a  "driver license" system, where each user is assigned a "license" as part of their account.  Every infraction carries a penalty point of some value. Once a user reaches a specified number of points, the player is automatically banned for a set duration of time, or permanently, depending on the number of points accrued.

To explain further, here's a detailed example of what would happen to a "problematic" player:

First offence is overtaking recklessly during heavy traffic, the player receives 3 points on his/her license and is automatically banned for 5 days.

Second offence is ramming another player off the road on purpose, the player receives 3 points on his/her license and is automatically banned for 7 days.

Third offence is a repeat of the previous offence, the player again, receives 3 points on his/her license. The player now has a total of 9 points, and the first threshold for a longer suspension is 9 points, the player is automatically banned for 1 month.

This will also make the jobs of in-game administrators easier. As they go through web reports (assuming a perfect system), they just have to select the infraction and the player will automatically be given the appropriate length of suspension and points without having to manually check their ban history.. This will also improve the speed at which in-game reports are completed, as they just have to select the ban reason, and the system can work out the rest.

Infraction list:

Horn spamming - 1 point - 1 day ban

Wrong way - 2 points - 3 day ban

Inappropriate overtaking - 3 points - 5 day ban

Ramming - 3 points - 7 day ban

Blocking - 3 points - 5 day ban

Hacking - 6 points - 14 day ban

Inappropriate parking - 2 points - 3 day ban

Unsupported mods - 3 points - 7 day ban

Ghost driving - 2 points - 3 day ban

Exiting map boundaries - 1 point - 1 day ban

Useless traffic - 2 points - 3 day ban

Inappropriate convoy management - 3 points - 5 day ban

Trolling - 3 points - 7 day ban

Car with Trailer - 3 points  - 7 day ban

Abuse of paintjob - 3 points  - 7 day ban

Excessive save editing - 2 points - 3 day ban

Reckless driving - 3 points - 7 day ban

Beacon abuse - 2 points - 3 day ban

Doubles and triples - 3 points - 7 day ban

and so on...

Thresholds for points accrued:

9 points - 1 month ban

12 points - 3 month ban

18 points - 6 month ban

24 points - permanent

Some will note that the values I have specified for each infraction and the duration of punishment are relatively high, this is because I'm of the opinion that the current punishments handed out to players are too lenient, where by they only spend a short amount time away from the game before they can come back and continue causing trouble for other players of the community. Though this could be considered a separate issue, but I feel like tying the two issues together would help to improve the overall experience of removing "bad" players from the network.

Obviously these values are based on my own opinion, but I feel like giving a fixed example may help people develop a better understanding of the idea.

I realise that this is a significant rework, and may not be entirely technically possible. But it's something to reflect on, considering the current state of large number of reports, and problematic players. I also realise that there would be an issue of "migration" of the old ban histories into the new system.

Looking forward to hearing your opinions about this.

Thanks for reading.

Hi @Moh_,

We appreciate the time and effort you've put in to making this suggestions on the forums.

Unfortunately, TruckersMP has no plans on changing how punishments are issued.

Our In-Game Administrators should not be acting in a biased way at all and are not encouraged to come in game to vent any stress or anger that they may have. Any behaviour of such is not appropriate of an Administrator and would need to be brought to the attention of our Upper Staff, contactable via the feedback system here:

Punishment lengths are down to the sole discretion of the punishing administrator, based on the severity of the situation and what rules were actually broken when the offence was committed. All ban durations given by administrators should be appropriate and within guidelines set down by Upper Staff.

Something similar to this may be implemented at some point in the future, but not at this time.

Rejected.
