  1. First off, I don't want to put any hate towards the dev team or really any of the team. I've played the mod since the day it came out for ATS and combined between games I probably have over 700 hours in MP. I love the mod and have been thinking about becoming a patron, but I agree with many of the concerns voiced in this thread. I am disappointed by the lack of communication as a whole from this... situation we'll call it. Since the original news post we have heard little to nothing and what we did hear was something mwl4 took time out of his job and development to write. I feel that the news team should have better communication with developers in relaying information. I don't want full length blog posts, I just want a quick sentence every once in awhile like "Hey, we hit a small roadblock, add a day or two to our estimate" or "Well, we found a much easier way to do the part we were dreading, take off a bit of time". Not exactly like that but you get the point.

Now onto the development side- I feel like you guys should try to get into contact with SCS about a potential partnership of sorts. If so much of the time is spent reverse engineering to find the source code, having a communication line with SCS to have that code to start with would, in theory, speed up the process a lot. As others have mentioned, without multiplayer much of the ATS/ETS2 playerbase is gone, so it'd be in SCS' best interest to partner. I understand their concerns with doing it themselves and I think you guys have done a great job of getting things generally working as a system, so there isn't a need for SCS to redo it themselves.

@BigBahamut /:\GER/:\, you make great points and I agree with most all of what you've said. You're being respectful about it and I think that's a great thing.

@Sanguinem Luna: In last month, we had to support multiple versions of American Truck Simulator because as you could notice, there were some other updates and binary changes to the game we had to support. With the current size of this project, it takes some time to support even little updates to make sure everything is working as intended, especially on these major updates. However, it cannot always go well.

We are only a community modification, not a company. Therefore, we cannot afford paying testers that would spend a full day in our modification trying to find all bugs and report them properly. And you cannot really expect anybody to do this for free. As all staff members are only volunteers, their time is very limited as this is only a hobby for them, not a job. In fact, most of our staff members are either employees or students. Therefore, if we wanted to have the coverage of testing like game studios, testing such a version would take one or two weeks at least. Additionally, we need multiple people with different hardware to test so the testing time would take much longer. And this also applies for developers. In fact, since the beginning of the project only one person has been doing these support updates. And this very one person was working on this project on his own for 4 years. In the middle of this year, I slowly started joining the game development, too, however, I still do not know all the necessary things to fix all bugs and provide solutions to all requests.
Note: all updates are tested before the release, however, due to reasons mentioned above, not all bugs can be found quickly, and some bugs can be missed even after weeks.

At the end of the day, this project is still in the alpha stage. I can notice from your rant that you probably do not fully know what the alpha stage really means. Thus, I am providing you this very nice text from Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle#Alpha

The release date was known, indeed. However, what does that mean for us? We do not get the content earlier than other players as in fact we are still only players. Additionally, yes, SCS often releases patches for their new DLC and I am glad for this as it can be seen they care about the community. But again, how is this useful for us? We do not know how many patches will be there and I am very sure the majority of players want to play the DLC in the multiplayer a few days after the release, not a couple of months after the release.

You have probably not paid attention to our social media, Discord or the forum at all. When a new update is released and we do not support it, we get spammed everywhere about the update and asking when it gets released. And trust us, we want to provide the support as soon as possible; same as the community does! Just check graphs of any game. The game is always mostly played when it gets some new content and/or features. Not several months after.

And before you get to replying to the next question, try to see the other side of the coin, too. Because if you really think it is that easy, you can become our another developer and make this better, do you not think so?

At the end of this text, I want to apologize for such a poor communication about the releases and updates. However, we prefer to do real work to only talking.

To be fair, you've never asked. Obviously nobody is going to spend all day, but a team of 10-15 doing it some of the time could work. Me, and I'm sure at least 10 of your 3 million users would be willing to mess around in the game and find bugs. And with recruitment or whatever, it's practically never open and any development or testing position takes lots of a process. IMO if you're a certain rank or above (like Veteran III or whatever) and go through a quick review process you could be able to test a beta for bugs. Just my opinion, but what do I know about development. (i mean that in a non-sarcastic way btw, i know hardly anything about development)

No-one ever said people have to dedicate whole days to testing. Just like how everyone who currently volunteers their time to any project like this, there are surely many other people who'd be happy to volunteer their time to testing if it meant that the mod would have much smoother updates. The fact you assume it still needs to be a full time job is ridiculous. The multiple different types of hardware needed for more conclusive testing would already be handled under a dedicated testing team.

    EXACTLY!

I've noticed huge frame drops and some weird graphical things in ATS after the update; I can't tell for ETS2 as the version I'm using is not supported yet.

As for the bugs: some wheels of the trailers of other players are low poly and low definition, other are not (weird) and the rolling bushes are lagging and low quality as well as the trailer wheels. I've experienced frame drops in the cities (small ones too, where there isn't much to load): I was continously fluctuating between 60 to 30 fps inside the cities (with instant frame drops up to a 10 fps loss), creating a pretty annoying effect.

Yeah, others' trailers are super low resolution. Also, though my PC is horrible and I typically get some freezes, in SP since 1.36 I have been getting hardly any. In MP I was getting freezes as bad at 1 min+, and horrible framerate regardless. The thing that kills me is that they had an entire month to figure this stuff out, and yet this is still a thing.

And on ATS MP at least, the game also launches forced into windowed mode and there's no way to get into fullscreen. Game window "freezes" if you try to change the graphics settings to fix it and can only be "unfrozen" by hitting the Escape key to revert the changes. Alt+Enter doesn't work either. And the game process takes forever to stop now after quitting out of TMP. ATS sat in my task manager for about a minute after quitting out of ATS MP before it finally stopped.

It does this in SP as well since 1.36

but it's always a good thing for all those other players who are not so good at speeding (but insist on doing it).

so now we are saying that people who actually drive realistically and use it as a- dare I say- simulator are just "not good at speeding"? I drive at the speed limit because it's a simulator, not because I can't handle speed.

    no collisions equals no realism

Also, going 150kph equals no realism. Yet here we are.

The thing is, with this update, there are just as many trolls and accidents happening as there was pre update. No one likes their cargo being destroyed by some idiot, but sadly there isn’t a much to be done unless the punishments are made stricter and there are IGAs every 500M in busy areas, but then all it takes is a trigger happy admin to start banning people for the littlest thing and ruin the game further.

I agree, but I do propose an idea:

Maybe TMP could add a rank of people like game admins, but only to an extent. Not allowed to ban, so no banning everyone, but then there could be a lot more scattered. They could be allowed to give out warnings and have some form of authority over normal players, and if they find anyone who they think (from a professional standpoint) should be banned, they could report it to Game Admins. Also allowed to control traffic, do some more of the traffic managing to take some of the load off of the admins so that they can focus on reports and such.

    I don't know, this is a lose-lose situation.

  7. Okay, here's my take on all of this:

As someone who drives realistic, follows real-life traffic rules (I don't care if the game won't fine you for running stop signs, I am going to stop at stop signs... stuff like that), and drives as if I had a 65mph in ATS or 90kph in ETS2 limiter...

I am tired of getting my doors blown off by people with their huge Scanias with windshields full of thingies and technically illegal lights galore who are going 180 down the highway. If you are going to play multiplayer, you are doing so because you want to drive with other people. By driving with other people, you acknowledge that you are supposed to drive nicely around them because they are real people. In SP, you can make a family sedan go flying into the ocean and nobody will care except you. In MP, people are affected by what you do.

If you want to go extremely fast, apex corners, throw aggressive blocks, and drive like a maniac, go play a racing game like Forza. TruckersMP exists to make the game more realistic in the sense that you can communicate with other drivers, drivers are (in theory) more realistic than in-game AI, and many other things.

    I'm just ranting here, but

TL;DR: if you want to drive faster than you would be able to in real life and cut people off, go to Arcade or don't bother with multiplayer.

I think removing player limit can affect server performance.Like you said,if queue limit will be 400-500 players, maybe will occur auto-reset,connection problems etc.

Also sometimes it can take a long time to work, wait a bit or open-close settings screen and try again. @CarCat

When I do I wait 5 minutes, open and close settings screen, nothing works.

wait? you force headlights even in daytime now?? unrealistic!! also 10 sec is really a bit steep.. make it 30.. and no im not a ghost driver.. i turn my light on from 19 to 7 like it was told in chat every time!

also consider players with bad computer and ones how are not playing with wintermod..

please review/rethink that approach to the problem of players without lights at night!! @mwl4

It's realistic. Most drivers for a company IRL are required by company policy to use their lights 24/7. I know I do in-game, both games. All the time. Also, I have a horrible computer and I have noticed absolutely no fps difference from the winter mod.

  10. Suggestion Name: AFK Mode

Suggestion Description: A mode you can turn on in the player list that appears when you hit the tab button. When enabled, this mode would put you into ghost mode. This would also disable the server from kicking you for AFK. But, for non-abuse, you wouldn't be able to move while in this mode. When you get back, simply press the "AFK Mode" button again.

    Any example images: None

Why should it be added?: Sometimes, I (and other players) have to go do something such as go to the bathroom, go check on dinner, etc. I always have to run back halfway through what I'm doing to hit y, then space, then enter.

Potential issue: Might cause issues with the server queue. I do not know a solution to this issue.

  11. Also, if you want to slide around, (I probably shouldn't be saying this even) go into SP and drop your truck from high up into the air a few times until everything is 100% (or at least tires). Then TP to service and repair everything but the tires (by unchecking the box next to "tires"). Then, you slide around, and everything else works. Only gripe is that the truck will always say visit service and 100%.

    @ThatOvertakenPokeman I honestly hope it's that one...

  12. Now I launch the launcher and try to start ats and it says "Unsupported game version detected". I've uninstalled and redownloaded the launcher, I've run as admin, I've uninstalled and reinstalled ATS, I've tried using public_beta for 1.29, I've tried No Beta. Nothing. It says I am on 1.6.1.9, I am on 1.29.1.1.

That was an awesome convoy, thanks to everyone who kept this event running smooth. I have to say that was the best organized convoy I have participated in.

    Congrats again Truckers FM!

@CarCat You are an off-road master, I almost followed you right off. :P

Yeah, hehe. I was typing with one hand, driving with the other, and, well, yeah... that happened. Realised halfway through my sentence and tried to save it, but I was in the air at that point. I didn't roll, but I got stuck. I service called to Plymouth, and just gave up lol.

Lesson? Don't text and drive! :P
