My game is out of date with truckers MP, have already selected 1.40 in steam beta section.

Your issue is probably because your BETA version is different with TMP so you are getting this error. TMP has been updated soon. TMP also has the solution in their own post...

Thanks for the replies, turns out the steam version needed to be changed to 1.40 beta.

As far as I know (and tested), the beta you have to select is "None". I see you are online, but I'd wait until you disconnect, and for Steam to finish any pending downloads, to call it a solved problem.
