  1. Hopefully with this patch the devs might just have struck the ideal compromise between the two 'factions'.

The realism fans have got a major improvement in that cities are no longer 90 kph but 60 kph, a significant drop in speed and one that makes city driving a lot more realistic feeling.

The gameplay fans have got an improvement in that the country is no longer 90 kph but 110 kph, enabling better progress to made if a player wants to, but without being so fast that it becomes difficult to handle the truck and/or cause a nuisance to other players.

I think it has to go down the compromise route because from looking at player numbers over the past days (and even before GTA V), it's becoming obvious that most of the time the numbers aren't large enough to justify separate servers, especially with the problem created by having only 1/3 to 1/2 full servers, of lack of involvement and multiplay when you drive an empty world.

So, let's hope this might work in everyone's favour (or at least, the majority anyway).

  2. Interesting thread derailment... :D

But anyway apparently the registry fix quoted several posts above does not usually have any effect in Windows 7 or higher, according to a few sources. I did try it out and it's made no *apparent* difference on mine either (Win 7), but luckliy the ping kicks only seem to regularly happen in the evenings at weekends, during week is hardly ever a problem.

  3. Which is the reason this is the Garage Porting Bug :) But there may be other ways, main thing to remember is at some point click 'Drive' and that's the equivalent of a 'Connect' button in MP.

Once that's been clicked you can port around between Garages with no issues at all.

  4. I think the MP mod also gives extra time before a delivery is late compared to the SP game.

Another useful trick can be to use the time differences on servers EU1 US and EU2 to get some extra hours - save on one and load game on another. Haven't had to do this for a while so don't know if it still is possible.

  5. I would have thought that adding a vanilla Volvo GPS screen to a vanilla Renault dashboard would not be loading any non-vanilla items so should not cause crashes for others, so should be acceptable, but I could be wrong.

All this talk of vanilla, I want ice cream.

  6. From what I've seen posted here and elsewhere since the change to the new system, there are possible plans to bring back the old system or something similar as well, but I haven't seen anything that says 'definitely'.

  7. Seems that the validation for the name chosen on initial account registration is less strict than that applied to the 'change display name' text field - that's the only reason I can think of that some users have indeed symbols like - and < in their names, but the change name option does not allow it.

This must surely be fix-able.. in the meantime it's possible that the support ticket team can do it manually for anyone requesting? Just a thought.

  8. I have it also - it's only if you do not click 'Drive' but instead choose to Quick Travel to a garage first. When you get to the next garage, I press Escape and then click 'Drive' again, problem solved, it connects.

  9. I can see positives and negatives to this suggestion...

For it: I agree that it can get a bit silly at times in certain areas which I won't mention where you have fleets of trucks parked up with their owners all busy on devcam trying to 'catch out' the next bad driver for reporting - yes if you drive properly you should have nothing to worry about, but honestly, and in my very humble opinion, people really should just drive in a driving game and let Admin and the victims of Bad Things Happening make their own reports. I have done the devcam thing in the past but changed my opinion more recently - I load the game because I want to play the game.

Against it: People have been and are prosecuted in real life for dangerous driving using footage from dash-cams in other people's cars or trucks who may not have actually been the victim. So I think it would be only fair to still allow this in game if it helps make sure that a troll gets what they deserve for causing problems.

So to summarise: I would be ok if a decision was made to disallow the filing of devcam style 'Neighbourhood Watch' reports, but I think that dash-cam reports taken from another active driver's view should always be allowed. And really I think things are generally ok at the moment so am not fussed either way about the first one.

  10. In that case it is probably your Nvidia card not activating when it should. Go to Nvidia Control Panel. In 'Manage 3D Settings' and Programs to Customise, look for eurotrucks2.exe or Euro Truck Simulator 2 and make sure that the line 'Preferred Graphics Processor' is set to use the Nvidia (not automatic).

    Hopefully that may solve?

  11. I think the maximum number of trucks is the worse of the two options also, but of course it would have to work so that if it was say set at 10, then it would ALWAYS have to be the NEAREST 10 trucks to the player, regardless of anything else, so unless more than 10 trucks simultaneously collided with you (a bad day at the office indeed) then it could work.

But I prefer the first option, distance.

  12. Suggestion Name: Limit distance or number of trucks within sight distance of a player

Suggestion Description: It seems a very common problem that in areas with lots of trucks together, players with perhaps not the ultimate gaming rigs, suffer from memory and lag problems, crashes, freezes etc. There is not really much at the moment we can do about it, but I do have a possible idea that might help.

Would it be possible to add an option to the 'Settings' > 'Graphics' box which would allow us to either:

    1) (my preferred choice) choose a distance LESS than the default 500 metres for other trucks to spawn and appear in our view and in our 'TAB' list. Obviously the lower limit would need to be reasonable at 150 metres (or a bit more) like the graphics draw distance, otherwise accidents could happen.

    OR

    2) choose a maximum number of trucks to appear in our spawn and view distance - perhaps using a similar slider control to the draw distance, and a number between 5 and 100, or whatever. Better than a slider would be an actual text input box to accept a number. EDIT: Whatever the number, it would always have to be the NEAREST xx number of trucks, so that anything colliding with you would be seen.

And this would also really need the old report system to be reintroduced as well as the new one, because a troll could even more quickly escape from just 150 or 200 metres distance.

If I have got this all wrong and it wouldn't make any difference please let me know, I won't be offended!

    Any example images:

Why should it be added?: The advantage would be that when entering, say, Rotterdam, you would not have maybe 30 - 40 players all loaded and using our memory and causing freezing, but a smaller number depending on setting used, which could really improve the performance for people.

  13. ^ Also ping kicks are automatic and not on record, thankfully.

In one way I'm quite glad admin kicks arent on record, cos I had one - got rammed onto side approaching Europoort, stopped with hazards on to TAB, find user and do report, during that short time I ended up getting kicked for parking near Europoort..hehe, rather embarrassing!

But I do agree with the reason why you think this is a good idea. Admins could do with some way to keep track of 'multiple kickees'.

  14. As far as I know, even a live kick never goes on record, not just ones reported at a later time.

Although I sometimes think they should, problem is that many kicks are not for bad behaviour always, but you might just be in the wrong place at wrong time, or lagging, or even a genuine error.

Possibly better system might be for the admins to have a private 'red flag' system where they can flag someone who they seem to have to kick a lot, and that can influence eventual decision on tougher action.
