SCS Software - ATS Stream Notes: June 27, 2018

[ATL] VLAD (UA)

Recommended Posts

1.Truck cables will be added to the AI vehicles in the next update in a much simplified state as to not cause performance issues.

2. One new truck license deal has been made. SCS are arranging a trip to the US where they will obtain sounds and references of the truck in order to make it as realistic as possible. Another truck license is in the advanced stages of discussion and another is looking promising. SCS have stated that they are under the same head company. The vision is to have the main 7 US truck brands in the game within the next 18-24 months, they are hoping to work on 3 or 4 trucks in parallel.

3. The map team will be constantly revisiting the old parts of the ATS map, fixing things and patching things up. Some junctions are being redesigned and large truck-stops may appear in California/Nevada/Arizona at a later point. There are some improvements to the I-80, north of Sacramento as well as "two new, long roads" in the next update.

4. The ATS road sign system will be improved to more realistically and accurately represent real life. This is already evident in New Mexico.

5. The state of Texas will obviously take a lot of time and effort for SCS due to the large scale of it.

6. Trailer configuration and upgrades will be available in 1.32, alongside the trailer updates for ETS2.

7. According to Pavel, "junk" in the cabin is illegal in the US. This means that cabin accessories may not be coming. They're not sure if they should put a lot of things into truck cabins, but they may "dare" to in the future. If they hear more demand for the cosmetics, they may reconsider. For now, they would like to focus on the core content of the game.

8. In the real world Oregon, gas station attendants fill up gas for their customers. This will not be the case in the ATS DLC. The Oregon gas station system will not change for now but it might be revamped in the future.

9. If players manage to complete 500,000 World of Trucks deliveries towards Operation Big Sur, the road will be reopened in the next update.

10. SCS showed off the Oregon DLC a bit. A video of the journey though Oregon should be uploaded to the SCS YouTube channel in a few days. Players asked for more rough roads as the flat highways were "boring", Oregon delivers that along with new scenery such as deep forests. There is still a lot of polishing, testing and bug fixing ahead but the majority map should be feature complete by the end of summer.

11. They are in the process of splitting the map team into different teams in order to work on projects at the same time. Two DLCs are already in pre-production stages. By the time Oregon is released, two teams will be working on two different states. They obviously did not confirm what the next DLC will be, but they're totally aware of complaints about the "hockey-stick shape" of the map and will be working to expand in multiple directions, squaring off the map.

12. Animated gates will be included within Oregon, and you should expect more animated gates to appear in future map expansions.

13. There were some tests with sandstorms in the game. SCS have recently established a weather/skybox research position and they would like to add dynamic weather patterns such as fog or sandstorms.

14. If a player owns a state that is not connected to states they already own, they will be able to access that state through a gameplay mechanic that will teleport the player. This mechanic has not been decided just yet.

15. Currently, no cargo in the game will exceed weight limits, so getting fined for overweight is unlikely at this time. With ownable trailers, it will be up to the player to determine if they should drive a purposefully overweight load and take the chance against a weight station requirement.

16. A licensed trailer brand is coming to ATS. These trailers will not be released this year due to SCS' busy schedule, but hopefully next year.

17. State-specific paint jobs and truck tuning packs will coming in a few years (not this year, for sure) as SCS would like to focus on the core content of the game first.

18. There may be an in-game UI to read up on various regulations in the US. Most of the regulations are handled by the game (e.g: the game generates triple trailers in Nevada only), but this could change in the future.

19. One day, weather seasons will have to be made for both games so they can become the "ultimate trucking simulation". This is another angle that SCS can use to add more variety to the game, and possibly making it more challenging. There were some thoughts about focusing these seasons purely on events like Christmas and other WOT events.

20. Weekly WOT events will not be appearing in the near future. In the future, there may be "quests" which will task the player similarly to the current World of Trucks events but on a much smaller scale. Events such as Operation Big Sur will be a one-off, as it is based on a real life event.

21. Visual damage will not be appearing on vehicles. This is due to limitations on licenses as manufacturers do not like to see this on their trucks. However, dirt on trucks is on the wishlist but it will not be appearing in-game in the near future.

22. The SCS "On the Road" Sim Trailer may appear in-game at some point in the future.

23. Random events will evolve over the years. The same can be said for Special Transport and other 'experiences' within both games.

24. ATS Special Transport is coming along well; definitely on track for release by the end of the year. The DLC will have escort vehicles similarly to ETS2 Special Transport. Some things shown in the stream are placeholders and will be changed for release.

25. Developing truck simulators for other continents alongside America and Europe will be a massive challenge for the small team at SCS. If the team grows bigger than they could ever imagine, they may begin to develop a new game for a different continent. For now, new employees are placed on the ATS/ETS2 teams.

26. Advanced vehicle features such as lane departure systems will eventually be coming to the games.

27. From a business POV, SCS would like the games to be on consoles as it will be more profitable. This is something they are keeping in their minds. They don't want to hire a separate company to port the game as it may not be an exact version of the game that they will be pushing on PC. Instead, they would like to do it internally so that the console version can be developed in parallel to the PC version. In terms of a mobile version, the control scheme would have to be altered and graphics lowered so that it can operate on a mobile system. You can watch Squirrel's interview with Pavel for some more information on this (and a clearer explanation of why they don't want another company to port the game).

28. There may be a new route to bypass Las Vegas due to complaints about performance issues on lower-end PCs.

29. The 500,000 delivery goal for the World of Trucks 'Operation Big Sur' event may be increased as 1/5th of the deliveries have been completed in just over 2 days. Once the 500,000 goal is reached, everyone has completed 5 or more deliveries towards the event is eligible for their community rewards.

30. There are no plans to go back and update the Scania Truck Driving Simulator game to bring it up to the current standards. Some features from Scania Truck Driving Sim will be coming to their current games, however, as part of the "driving school" mentioned in the last stream.

31. ATS and ETS2 will be supported for another 5-10 years if players keep enjoying the game and newcomers to the genre purchase the game, according to Pavel. He would like to reach the east side of the US in his lifetime as well as the populated areas of Canada in a few years time.

32. While taking a World of Trucks job, you cannot teleport to service stations or the job will be abandoned. This is to prevent 'cheating' during WOT events.

And no. There's no Battle Royale mode coming for ATS either. Again, the team called TruckersMP the battle royale mode :D

Hello,

Thank you very much for providing us with these information on the forum. There are indeed quite some interesting things which we can be looking forward to and I am really keen on getting to see the amazing new content which is going to hit the game. For now, however, I need to save up for Oregon because this will certainly be fun!

Once again, thank you for your effort, it does not go unnoticed ;)
