Kicked for AFK, while sitting in own garage?

mgomez

Question

I'm not sure what the rationale is behind this, but this never happened to me until I decided to once again start playing ETS2 on multiplayer a few days ago. Every time I spend even 4 minutes away from my keyboard, I come back to the surprise that I'm offline. This is strange, considering that I'm not interfering with others' gameplay. I always park in non-collision zones or ensure that others can pass by without a hitch.

It's just ironic that I've been kicked off the server many times yet everyone who flips me, rams me, cuts me off at red lights to crash into someone else, and blocks my way on the road for the past few days has been able to get away with it quite cleanly.

I'm sorry. I'm just frustrated beyond relief since I loved playing ETS2 MP. I think the mod is just going through some growing pains as a victim of its own success. This is why I still support the dev(s) and admins, despite my frustrations right now.

My hypothesis is that AFK kicks are just a way to make sure that the server is not overloaded with an excess amount of idle connections (if this is automated, then I'd bet this is the reason for the kicks). If it's an admin doing the kicking, I think there are probably bigger things to focus on.

Oh! I just thought of something! If keeping yourself out of the server when AFK is this important, we should be able to kick ourselves out, too, and then reconnect when we're back at the keyboard! This would make it easier for some of us who love this game and would like to do everything we can to ensure we are following the multiplayer rules!

Yep, afk kick is annoying me too, and why are they so afraid of overloaded servers,EU1 has 5000 slots..

But its the same for me, i support the staff despite it is annoying me really hard that i cant get a cup of without getting kicked.

I wonder if you look both ways when you cross my mind..

Be slow to critize, be fast to appreciate.

It wouldn't be so annoying if we had the option to reconnect in-game. The lack of this practically makes us have to quit the game, then start it again to get back in the server. The load times on some systems are as long as it would take for you to get an AFK kick :D

i think it is not only about overloading the servers but i bet when you were AFK it was possibly in a busy place? Some cities are really so laggy at peak hours that you can't properly drive through without damage unless you go like 20-30 km/h. not to mention trucks and trailers bouncing around because of the lagg :)

Interesting. No, I was parked on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere last time. But yes, sometimes I park in the city, in my garage. I get it.

And... That's why trucks bounce around? I've been noticing it. It's hilarious :D

For me it's also annoying but I understand the reason. Before Collision turned on you have seen many drivers who "parking" on highway crossways or on other not typical parking places.
Now you have 15 Minutes to do what you want to do in your Idle Time. Imagine, the half of the players would be the whole day at AFK.

A reconnect would a good idea, but as the admins says:

I like going on freeroam to many idiots on the other server's that just want to bash in you for fun. but even in freeroam where not many

people go on I still got kick for being AFK. shouldn't happen at all in freeroam. oh yeh also in freeroam we can go as fast as the truck

will take you. but that fine to do is it..
