rolypolyman
I am running Fraps 3.2.2. and notice that every time I hit F9 to begin recording video, the in-game text chat vanishes. Pressing Y doesn't bring it back. When I quit the recording with F9, text chat immediately reappears. Does anyone know what's going on with the game or Fraps? EDIT: Dammit, never mind, I'm an idiot. I must have searched Google 20 times for this before posting. I tried searching one last time after posting and found this thread: http://forum.ets2mp.com/index.php?/topic/479-problem-while-recording-with-fraps/ and the solution is: "Because you press F9. Change in FRAPS recording key to another, eg. Home." Sorry, I'd delete this if there was an option for it, but maybe this will help someone. _Ben
Hello rolypolyman, F9 key is used to hide/unhide the in-game chat and its also the button to start/stop recording with fraps. You can change the recording button in fraps settings.

rolypolyman
Does OBS produce smaller files? I've never liked the way Fraps produces gigabyte files in only 30 seconds, but I guess encoding uses lots of CPU. I like the idea of Shadowplay and want my next card to have something like that. Yes, you can change quality settings in OBS. That's one of the reasons I used OBS over Fraps when I had an AMD card, lower file sizes, more options. AMD has a similar feature, I believe it's called Rapter but is basically uses a rolling record scheme of about 2 minutes and when you press a certain key-combo, the current 2 minutes of video are saved on disk. As I have an NVidia card I can't tell you exactly how Rapter works, but I heard it's very similar. I must admit that ShadowPlay isn't great for steaming live records, OBS is better at that, but not everybody has the desire to stream their journeys.. 510 Horses and one lucky bird at work Simulators: Prepar3d V4, X-Plane 11, DCS 1.5 + 2.x, ETS2, ATS, Farming Simulator 17, Omsi 1 + 2 System: Intel i7-6700K @ 4700Mhz, 32GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LPX, GTX970, HP LP2475w monitor (1920x1200) Devices: Logitech G27, SKRS Shifter, CH Products Throttle Quadrant, Trustmaster Hotas Joystick, TrackIR Storage: 2 x SM961 - 250GB (raid 0), Samsung 850 pro 1TB disk, Samsung 850 EVO 2TB disk. NoTime4name
Well this turned into a 'omg fraps is rubbish' thread fast... But what I use, if your keyboard/mouse has macros, set it to some random key combination, and then record a macro with the same combination
