AgentTekk Posted June 20, 2015 Report Posted June 20, 2015 Suggestion Name: Linux Support Suggestion Description: As the title suggests, I would like to ask if you have any plans to make ETS2MP available for Linux. If not, why not? Why should it be added?: There are a lot more Linux users than there used to be this time last year. The amount of Linux users is constantly growing, and a lot of people playing ETS are doing so on Linux. We want to play multiplayer, too. Currently, we have to do all sorts of workarounds in order to get online. It works, but it'd be so much better to be able to play natively
AirevielRetired Posted June 21, 2015 Report Posted June 21, 2015 I would like to see this considered, but I doubt it will. I am aware (as a developer myself), this will require a lot of work as Linux uses OpenGL by default and not dX. Sure you can add the directX dlls to wine/other emulator and try to modify custom command lines to launch the game. But that's added work for those who are new to Linux, which most users won't want to learn to do. As a matter of fact, I am currently working on my own OS as i too want to get away from Windows. I considered the move to Linux, but there is so much work required to modify the current kernels for gaming purposes. Also the current engine (prism), would need to be practically rebuilt to work on a Linux system, which is no easy task for any advanced developer to do. I am aware of the SteamOS, which is practically a rip-off of the Ubuntu kernels, and I don't recommend it to any gamer to be honest. It's a great suggestion, but unlikely to happen me thinks. CJMAXiK Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 There are a lot more Linux users... I don't think so. Less than Mac users.
J&B^ Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 It's not possible - Basic game are ot compatible with linux Best regards, J&B^ I'm actually in-Game
Creatured Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 you could try getting it to run with playonlinux i got it working once but then i got stuck do to no fonts
AirevielRetired Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 sudo apt-get install aptitude sudo aptitude install wine sudo aptitude install winetricks sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer If you continue to have issues, you can open wine from the start menu, (if using GDE) and choose configure wine. Here you can add and install any missing DLLs. Hope this helps you Dutch Do not install wine as root. This is a security concern. Flari Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 It's not possible - Basic game are ot compatible with linux I beg your pardon...
Philip1212 Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 I beg your pardon... It's not possible from the MP. SP is working on Linux but not the MP.
Flari Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 It's not possible from the MP. SP is working on Linux but not the MP. And the user I answered to actually talked about the "base game", which is SP, no? Anyway, if there was a functioning Multiplayer for Linux I'd be all over it. +1 1
S2020 Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 MP works as a hack into memory bits while game is running since SCS does not support data-flow as SDK. That's why we don't have x64 support, because memory allocated changes in x64 and underlying security does not allow that. Same goes for "pure Linux" or Mac support. May be that may answer to your suggestion "Trucking is like love... Only newbies go fast and end up early "
AirevielRetired Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 I've tried running ETS2 on Steam OS, only to have nothing but problems with it. (Mostly with SteamOS,) Steam OS is rubbish, just like its client application, (steam). Last time I checked up with Steam, they were using emulation to run games which are not developed to work with Linux. http://www.scssoft.com/eurotrucksimulator2.phpWhere does it say that the official site supports Linux? It is steam who proclaim such statement (only to try promote Ubuntu with a Steam GDE). Steam would sell their Granny to make money. Please educate yourself instead of trying to make someone out to be a lier Flari. Neves768 Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 Try Wine... Can works! I already played some Windows games at Linux with Wine =) A topic solved about it: http://forum.ets2mp.com/index.php?/topic/825-solved-wineets2-mp-on-linux/ Someone made a video about it: \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ sudo apt-get install aptitude sudo aptitude install wine sudo aptitude install winetricks sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer If you continue to have issues, you can open wine from the start menu, (if using GDE) and choose configure wine. Flari Posted July 2, 2015 Report Posted July 2, 2015 I've tried running ETS2 on Steam OS, only to have nothing but problems with it. I did at not point try to make someone out to be a liar (!), I merely provided the information given. SCS Software released a press statement when "Going East" came out, that ETS2 would then be available on Linux. Several sites reported about it, (including several linux webistes and forums) but the statement is deeply buried on the official site. They later added, that it was still being tested and that it seemed not to work as smoothly as on other OS, but it is theoretically supported by the developer themselves on Linux. In case you wondered: http://blog.scssoft.com/2013/04/public-linux-beta-of-euro-truck.html This is the blogpost about the early open beta. I did not want to offend anyone and I'm sorry if I did. On another note, I understand that many of you know how the MP is programmed and the likes, but the suggestions itself is not bad. One could keep it in mind for the far future.
sgpch1983 Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 But that's added work for those who are new to Linux, which most users won't want to learn to do. Sorry, but than linux is not for you/them.. if you are not willing to learn, stay windows please.
MaxOMax Posted July 8, 2015 Report Posted July 8, 2015 We said before, regarding Mac and Linux and any users other than Windows, Won't be available any time soon, due to the (High Costs of the servers) and System needed to Program it, So It won't Happen soon, and maybe never gonna happen !
