Tips for driving in busy events

By ash.exe

With the recent introduction of the "Destination Hannover" event, Hannover city became more busier than usual to drive in. This guide will go over some tips for driving in busier events such as World of Trucks events (i.e. Genoa Bridge, Destination Hannover) or TruckersMP events (i.e. Operation HQ). Please note this guide doesn't just apply to the current event but will also apply to future events hosted by WoT and TMP

1. Always adhere to the Game Moderator's request - Game Moderators in TruckersMP aren't just here to ban reckless drivers. They also help out in situations like traffic. If a Moderator asks you to do something or not to do something, please adhere to their request to avoid creating further problems.

2. Make sure your PC can handle traffic - If your PC can handle the traffic on the C-D road or Calais city, then it may most likely do well in busier events too. If your PC cannot handle traffic well, reduce your settings or drive in single player.

3. Only Merge In Turn when conditions allow for it - Merge In Turn reduces congestion behind you by allowing drivers to use the full length of the lane and merging at the lane closing point. This should be conducted in slower speeds and on entry slip roads only. I've seen many drivers make the mistake of Merge In Turning at the exit slip road which will block drivers continuing straight ahead from the highway. The first image shows a bad "Merge In Turn" and the second image shows a good "Merge In Turn".

RED: Do not attempt to merge in turn and continue straight ahead to prevent blocking traffic missing this exit.

GREEN: Enter this lane as soon as possible if you are exiting this highway.

RED: Do not attempt to Merge In Turn too early as you are likely to cause a congestion behind you.

GREEN: Use the full length of the lane and merge into the next lane when you find a gap.

BLUE: Leave some space for people in the green lane to merge into as you reduce congestion on that lane! Do NOT block or prevent people in that lane from entering the lane.

4. Don't spam the horn! - It's incredibly annoying for other drivers around you to have to deal with you spamming the horn, especially when it doesn't really do anything. Only use the horn if another vehicle is about to crash into you. Also some people want to listen to music and not listen to horns.

5. Always plan out a route that doesn't take you into too much traffic - It is usually a good idea to decide how you'll get to your destination logistic company in the smallest amount of time possible. That's where the TMP map would be useful: https://map.truckersmp.com/. Of course traffic is going to be inevitable but it does save you some time. I encourage you to avoid using the route preplotted by the game as everyone will be using that.

6. If you cannot wait any longer in the traffic, run /disconnect - Typing /disconnect in the chat box will disconnect you from the server and will cause all drivers to disappear. This is extremely useful if you need to leave the game but still in traffic. This will also NOT delete your job and will log the job normally on WoT and any VTC logging system you might be using.

7. Drive in single player mode - Of course you also have the alternative of driving in single player if it is too busy. Again this will not delete your job.

8. Do not overtake traffic if you are going to the same destination as them - This isn't usually a good idea because if traffic is gridlocked, then merging back into the traffic will be difficult and may block off any drivers trying to get to another destination.

9. If you are driving with friends, please be considerate of other drivers on the road - Everyone is trying to get to the same destination so expect the convoy to split up. If the convoy splits up, do not try to remerge the convoy as it creates more problems for others around.

I hope this guide is helpful and hope you all have a safe drive. Any questions??? Drop them below.

Interesting guide & good to know. I always don't understand the last-second exit tho :LUL:

Glad you found it interesting! A lot of people in TMP tend to use either the 2nd, 3rd or 4th lane then suddenly jump to the exit lane which blocks off traffic behind them. This is usually why it creates further congestion on the road.

That's when it should be appropriate for drivers around to remain vigilant about which lane to use overall and to just continue making the mistake than suddenly trying to correct the mistake.

UPDATE: I've decided to rephrase point 3 to mention Merge In Turn. For those that may not know what it is, "Merge In Turn" reduces congestion by allowing vehicles to use the full length of the lane and then entering the lane at the latest possible time.

On the second image, if you are driving on the blue lane, it is a good idea to leave some gaps in between yourself and other vehicles to allow people in the green lane to merge. DO NOT PREVENT PEOPLE FROM MERGE IN TURNING IF THEY COMMITTED TO IT. If you are driving in the green lane, use the full length of the lane and merge when you find a gap!
