An old screenshot I have from the Operation Big Sur event about 3 years ago, anyone else remember that event?

It was much more challenging to drive on before TMP widened that road because it was a very tight dirt road on the SCS version of it which could barely fit 2 people. That was the first time TMP ever edited the map.

If you have any screenshots of your own feel free to share them!

If I remember correctly, for the event, you had to make 10 deliveries to or from the landslide site, but the problem was, there were only two other destinations/starting points - the cities of Santa Cruz and Santa Maria, so these two short routes were super congested and the landslide location was messed up even with TMP's addition of wide tarmac road and traffic lights. Took me 2 hours to make one trip.

I do remember that event. Tried one delivery in MP, disconnected, finished that one and all others in single player. From what I read, it must have been the only "one-point" event where people would behave, more or less, mostly because the game moderation team would be merciless with rule breakers there (and honestly, there was nothing else to "monitor" during the time the event took place). But I wouldn't stand being stuck for 2 hours or longer only to do a delivery and knowing that I'd find the same thing on the next one. Besides, in single player, all of the jobs had to go on the "original" dirt roads, which made them even more interesting and enjoyable, IMO.

With the super low speeds there aren't as many reckless drivers, but I think some idiots still tried to overtake in a traffic jam like some people do on CD road.

There was that similar event in ETS2 a couple years ago or something, was it pretty similar to big sur? I know there had to be much more players of course because it's ETS2. I took a break from playing ETS2 at the time so I'm not sure.

Yes, the "Genoa Bridge" event. Quite similar, 2 delivery points, only the way there was on highways, instead of dirt roads. And same as the Big Sur one, I only tried the first one in TruckersMP... The ETRC event was also similar, but the delivery points were several. Problem here is that they were all inside cities, and you could find 30-40 trucks stuck at the company's entrance... I usually have a lot of patience, but being stuck because ignorant players will be trying always to be the first one in line even if there was already a jam when they arrived, is something that I hate. The main reason why I do these WoT events in single player. Let's not forget, also, that WoT means that you can drive 1000 Km without any issues and get the job lost in the last 100 metres before delivery by one of the many reckless drivers in TruckersMP. Sure, you can just start over again, but it's not worth it, IMO, when you can avoid that waste of time so easily.

To get all the rewards, you had to deliver to only 5 different destinations, but you had to pick up load from each starting city at least once.

For the 3 days the destination city would basically turn to Duisburg, at least for the first half of the event, not sure about the rest, I wasn't there. Most of the time I would finish the delivery offline because you couldn't even see where to park the trailer, so many people parking in single spot.

Hey there,

I certainly remember this event: Operation Big Sur in 2018 and I have a lot of information, screenshots and interesting facts ?

Timeline:

  1. June 25 in the morning - start of the event
  2. Late in the evening on June 26 - support for the event at TruckersMP
  3. June 27, around 3 p.m. - Complete 20% of the community goal of delivering 100,000 out of 500,000 jobs
  4. June 29 around 11 am - implementation of a reworked asphalt road with traffic lights next to the landslide to facilitate the traffic a bit at :tmp:
  5. July 10 - Achieved community goal of 500,000 deliveries

Description:

This event was preceded by a trailer on the SCS blog so we waited carefully for the start of the event:

The event started on June 25 in the morning. I had the day off so I was ready and I completed my first shipment quite quickly and surprisingly it was the first shipment of the whole event:

https://imgur.com/a/ZGvWO37

My plan was to complete a personal goal as quickly as possible in single-player mode to get a reward. Moreover, I had a feeling that when the event will be also available on TruckersMP, the journey could take a long time:

The next evening in the evening, mwl4 released the American Truck Simulator TMP update along with the event support. The players set off to perform deliveries together, spend time together and, of course, unblock the way.
A positive madness began. Something people didn't even dream about in ats mp. The number of players on the ats tmp server was so large that after some time it was decided to start soon another Europe 2 server.

On June 27, the developer mwl4 personally convinced that an absolutely historic moment is taking place and recorded a video for his YouTube channel (he does not do it often):

TruckersMP - Operation Big Sur: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-PEALTUM00

Also on the same day, June 27, it could be observed that players to complete 100,000 deliveries to or from Big Sur Landslide on California's Highway 1 (It took just over 2 days). Which was a phenomenal result and showing the enormous interest in Operation Big Sur:

Delivering cargo to temporary companies, places located in the landslide, took up to 5 hours.
The moderators watched the queues. 2 things I remember: many of kick for overtaking and used beacons. In addition, the chat often included moderators' requests "player ... please turn off your beacons"
FPS dropped to a few, so I personally decided to reduce the graphics to low settings.

On Friday, June 29, TMP introduced a reworked map, namely an asphalt road next to the landslide with traffic lights:

On July 10, the community target of 500,000 deliveries to or from Big Sur Landslide was achieved. On the TruckersMP server, players counted missing deliveries by looking at the World of Trucks website. When the goal was achieved, a short celebration began in chat, cb and with lights and spam horns as well.

I do remember that event and I actually liked it in multiplayer until you got to where the delivery point was, it made roads that normally didn't have players on it pretty active, although once you get into the city it takes forever. Actually you didn't even have to go into the city to see a huge traffic jam because even the highway had a traffic jam backed up for a long time.

It's really crowded,But it is also the best activity SCS has ever done

I remember Big Sur - by far the best WOT event in my opinion, mainly thanks to TruckersMP.

It was a bittersweet event for the ATS server because it was the most it had for a very long time and the player count dropped again right after.

Back to the event, I actually liked the traffic jams with everyone with a loaded lobby or a full dump trailer. Every driver pitching in to clear up the landslide showed SCS Software just how much the community enjoyed the event - I still hope they make another like it.

The main reason Big Sur sticks out from the others is mainly because the event is dedicated to one central location. Other events (while still fun!) with loads across the states seem more secluded, at least for the ATS servers. I'm optimistic that we'll see another event like that one day.

Thanks for bringing back the awesome memories!
