Guest
I like the 7 speed, easier to get going and I have found with a normal load that getting up Bellingham MTN was not too bad. For heavy loads I will go with an 18 speed but I use an automatic trans. Curious as to what other driver use.
B&Č Transport ASIR [CZE]
I don't use 18 speed transmission at all, as I have a Thrustmaster TH8A H-pattern shifter. For regular and not heavy cargoes I use truck that has 6 speed manual transmission, but for heavy cargoes I use truck with 12 speed manual transmission. When I want to deliver heavy cargoes with 12 speed transmission, I have to use a button (in my case 7th speed on shifter) to determine, whether I want to use my gear shifter for speeds 1-6 or 7-12. This wouldn't work with 18 speed transmission.
Kye.
I’ve found that for a standard truck that has a light trailer attached it is pretty easy to set off and gain speed quickly on a 6-speed transmission; then for the heavy heavy loads I recommend using the higher speed transmissions. - Ky_James✌
THE ROCK - PT
I do always use a 18 transmission all real mode , got thrustmaster t300 rs + H shifter + man tga stick so i have the 2 buttons for high and low and changing gear.
Tayyyyyyyyyy
I will go for 12 speed transmission as I found that it has the most balanced performance for all sort of cargo and has the highest top speed among the others in case you are looking for speed
Dubbeledraaideur [NL]
Almost all my trucks have a 12 speed gearbox. For my 8x4 I use a 12+2 speed gearbox. (the crawler gear is useful, to crawl up steep/slippery slopes). I used a 18 speed gearbox in a peterbilt 379 in ETS2, for special transport, but I couldn't make it up a highway ramp in old ETS2.... [C-S] Specik
Often in Euro Truck Simulator 2 in my trucks i use 12 speed gearbox. In American Truck Simulator I prefer 6 speed gearbox but this depends on.
ThatBritishCarGuy
So far i've only used 12 speed trucks, Scania and MAN. However, since I have the driving force shifter im looking at buying A six speed truck, probably the Volvo FH 16 2009. 12 speeds are good especially on real auto, good for long distance. Harley200317
My truckers vary depending on what I want them for, However most of my Scania and MAN's are 12 speed trucks just as they are generally better for heavy cargo Current Rank Previous Ranks
Fezz
I always use 18 speeds on ATS, but anything ETS I always use 12. I have a G29, so gear shifting isn't an issue!
WarSniperr
I use 6 speed gearbox, Purley because it is what my shifter is made for and it is equivalent to driving a car irl. I am also to lazy to shift any more gears then 6 Kappa Kind Regards, WarSniperr
Interstate Nomad
For me, the choice of number of gears solely depends on the job respectively the cargo I have to haul. Basically, the heavier the cargo is the more gears I choose.
[TCS-VTC]*009*Thorns Way
That depends on the trailer and cargo,if I deliever a heavy cargo, then I will prefer 12 speed gearbox, but if I just deliever a light cargo, then I will select the 6 speed gearbox. Wraith645
The only time i use a 6 speed would be during convoys to keep up on event servers, or when there is a TFM drag race going on
DGAF_AK87
It depends on the truck. The Cascadia, I use the the 12 speed. I'm able to run 75 with rpms under 1500. Most others get the 18 speed because for some reason, the ratios are different compared to the Cascadia and 49X
owen6116
Generally for me I find the 6 speed to make acceleration faster.
Guest
I think it’s better to use a 6-speed gearbox, especially when you just start the vehicle, there is a feeling of thrust,In the cab time, I feel a little bit of the front of the car cocked. effinghamjnr
I personally prefer 6 or 7 Speed gearboxes because I often drive in busy areas that can require faster acceleration. However I would like to try something with more gears in the future. **Kind regards,**
Hedsma
I mostly stick to 14 speeds since I haul heavy loads. Heavy Haul and Special Transport Enthusiast My load is bigger than yours!
Ruffian
I usually stick to 12-speed transmissions. In my opinion, they're great for both normal and heavy cargo loads (but that can depend on what engine and transaxle you choose ) Report a user | Appeal your ban | Feedback | Rules | Support
OmSaL
I usually stick to 6 -speed transmissions. In my opinion, the Truck accelerates better with the 6-speed transmissions. _raffaele_
talking for me, depend a lot by the cargo, for heavy cargo (so for me over 25-30 tons) 18 gears, otherwise i usually use the 6 speeds trasmission for the usual driving and daily cargo transport, wich it's mostly less than 20 tons, so in resume, i never use 18 speeds _raffaele_
The Duckling
AS i don' have a shifter, i do everything in Sequential mode. (keeps me occupied ) ETS2: Volvo 500 with a 12spd rt (as i hardly do any heavy haul, else i would have a 12+2) ATS: My main Kenny has C15 625 and a 18 spd Eaton rt (the other truck is a Volvo VNL 510 paccar and 13spd rt)
[BG-NL] CrazyIvan_
6 speed all the way. No money for a shifter, and I also drive at full speed if possible.
