How to improve the Simulation Setup in Multiplayer!

Guest

Recommended Posts

Welcome to TruckersMP, i created this Thread for Players, who are interested to play a Truck Simulation Game.
This Thread is not not started to discuss the Rules, the Game Limitations by TruckersMP or the current Speed Limits on the Server.
It is my intention to show New and Veteran Players some legal Options to improve their Online Gameplay Simulation Experience!
For the Ones who asking "Who the heck is this guy?"
I am a retired Truck Driver that drove +20 Years Trucks in and around Europe and i am also a Member of the Game Moderation Team! My personal Setup is a suggestion, you dont need to adapt them  if you dont like them! ;)

TruckersMP decided to set their Focus on a Truck Simulation. Honestly, ETS2  itself, is far away from a real Truck Driving Simulation but SCS doing its best to closing this gap.

When you playing the Single Player, you are able to using many Mods to bring more realism to the Game!
On TruckersMP, Mods are not working, except some Mods that are provided by us!
That brought me to this Thread.
You are able to improve the Simulation with some Settings via the ETS 2 Options Menu and some Trucks Parts via the Ingame Shop, but first of all you must really want it!

***WARNING, THE FOLLOWING CONTENT CHANGES YOUR INGAME DRIVING PHYSICS! DRIVING WITH THESE SETTINGS NEEDED MORE ATTENTION AND LOWER SPEEDS!! ALSO A STEERING WHEEL OR A GAMECONTROLLER IS RECOMMENDED***

1.
Lets start whith the Controller. I using a Dual Gamepad Controller, that means i using the left Stick for steering and the right Stick for Gas/Brakes and looking left and right.
A good Steering Wheel might be the best but when you have not much money and you having problems with Keyboard and/or Mouse, then the Controller is a cheap solution!
Important, set your configurations and do a intense Testdrive, before you playing online!
Also be aware, it depends on your speed, how fast and accurate your controller works ingame!

These are my Settings:

https://prnt.sc/wn91cp

https://prnt.sc/wncsum

https://prnt.sc/wn92hw

https://prnt.sc/wnctf8

https://prnt.sc/wnctwm

Your Settings/Sensitivity can be different, based on your Controller and what you prefer but important is. Your steering stick should be synchronized with the moving range of your steering wheel ingame. And you should always have a small "Deadzone" where your Controller is not reacting!

For a more detailed Controller/Key Configuration, visit our Guides Section!

2.
The Truck Physics by SCS. Well the Physics are really simple and, different to the real life, you are not feeling them at first,  till your truck making a rest on the right mirror!
Thankfully, SCS gave us the Option to set our own Physics and Camera Movements, to get a hint that we are driving too fast around a corner.
A good Indicator, how fast we should drive, are those accessories:

https://prnt.sc/wn9hx3

The Movement Range is limited and when the Flag in the middle reached his end, then it is a indicator that you´ve driving too fast around the corner.
In real Life, many fragile cargos having a G-Force Indicator that are checked by the receiver, when you unloading it!
And when your Driving was too careless then you might be in trouble! ;)

So keep in Mind, when you switching to these settings, you must drive more responsive and carefully.

https://prnt.sc/wncpn1

https://prnt.sc/wn9toz

https://prnt.sc/wncrby

https://prnt.sc/wn9uq8

https://prnt.sc/wncru5

3.
The Cockpit View! I suggest the following Settings when you mostly driving in 1st Person:

https://prnt.sc/wn9z1y

4.
The Truck itself! Well this will not be a Discussion, which Truck Brand should you use and how many Horsepower and so on! It depends on you, which truck you wanna drive.
I prefer the most Time, a clean Jspec Truck with a realistic Engine, as it would be used in reality! Because i am playing a Truck Simulation Game and in Reality, Trucks with more than 550 HP are rare and not Economic! Exceptions are Heavy Transports and Trucks that working in heavy environments. But the regular Trucking Companys using Trucks with 360 – 500 HP!
But, there is One Part in the Shop, that really improves the Driving Physics:

https://prnt.sc/wnacg5

The "Absoulute Fury" or "American Dream" Rims!

All Settings and Parts together providing a challenging driving experience to you and you can be aware, you will driving much slower around turnings!

Please keep im Mind, you are responsive for your environment, using these settings are no excuse when you´ve violated the rules

Thanks for the advice, i´ve added some english screenshots. I know this guide is really simple at the moment. You are welcome to ask questions and to give constructive critic! :)

I think you forgot to mention the "g_phys_mirrors 1" console command, W4chund.

This uses a more accurate calculation of the mirrors in the game. Why that? That setting is using the more or less exact curvature of the mirrors instead of a simple plane. Makes tracking a few objects harder, especially in the wide-angle

"Just because others break rules, does not grant you the permission to break the rules as well"

Please drive respectful on the servers. Thank you!

Thanks for the advice. But i didn´t forget it, the console/config setting will be another upcoming part of this guide! ;)

I don´t want overhelm the User with too much informations at the beginning, specially the console/config settings need a bit more experienced knowledge!

I already use most of these settings, but there are definitely some things I'll need to try.

To contribute to this thread, I recently got a wheel and I did not like how the steering felt in the game. I found an improved steering algorithm from Reddit. It greatly changed how the steering feels, especially on the highways. The idea is that it makes the steering less sensitive in the centre and the sensitivity increases the more you turn. The only downside is that the wheel turns really fast to full lock within the last 30° or so, but it hasn't bothered me. The Reddit post explains the algorithm in detail.

Ready to go!

Hey! I read all the lines you wrote. There really is very useful information under each title. In fact , I would like many players to read this topic and learn detailed information. I hope the players will regulate themselves. Thank you so much for the information you gave You are good man.

I will say having the truck stability slider fully left/minimum is not particularly realistic any more, 3+ years ago yes when trucks were a lot more stable values in the range of -0.1 to -0.25 were ballpark which could only be got via the console or config.cfg edit pre launch, but back then the slider would work on the range of 0 to 1, now it works on the range of 0 to 0.5 with the half-way point being 0.25 rather than 0.5, so under the old system a value of e.g. -0.15 via the console/config.cfg the trailer (with its stability set to 0) would still be the first component to lift its wheels off the ground and when the wheels on the one side of the trailer got to about 0.5m off the ground it would then start to lift the wheels on the one side of the truck off the ground, given semi-trailers are always the first component of a combination to lift wheels and it is them that drag-over the tractor unit, the problem with setting the slider truck stability slider fully left now is the "roll-over" happens in unison and there is functionally no lag between trailer wheel lift and notional torsion (twist) building in the semi-trailer chassis frame and tractor unit wheel lift.

example video:

flatbed semi-trailer rollover exemplifying trailer wheel lift first, build-up of torsion in the trailer chassis because the tractor unit is resisting the roll up to the critical point of no return (do note that monocoque constructed trailers without chases, shipping containers attached via twist-locks, or long items like multiple smaller or single large girders, beams etc chained down to the trailer tend to limit torsion) but the trailer wheels always lift first on the inside of the turn, then the rears of the tractor unit on the inside of the turn, the front steer tyres on the tractor unit on the inside of the turn lift last IRL.

At the Moment, the Physics are not as realistic as they should be, but to be honest, it wasn´t either at any time! The Sliders to the left will slowing you down! In Reality you wouldn´t drive around a curve with the Speeds that you´ve driving Ingame. I started my Career as Truck Driver with Car Transports and these Trucks are extremly Top Heavy, when they are fully Loaded! As example, when you left the Motorway over a Ramp with a narrow Curve, you slowed down to 15 - 20 kph to not flip the Truck over, while you go with another Type of Trailer with 25 - 30 kph!

Unfortunately, the standard Cargos/Trailers do not really Simulate the Masseffect of the different types of Cargos properly, due to the physic engine limitations. SCS was a bit more accurate with the World of Truck Contracts, there is a bit more reality!

If it would possible to simulate the Masseffects of the Cargo by Default, you can be sure that i am the First One who will working on it! But at the Moment, we have to use what we have and that means, reduce your Speed, otherwise your Truck will laying on the Side! ;)
