I tried that today, I had to leave the game while I was still on a mission, so I got into the SP and it also told me that I was already late.

If I disconnect from the multiplayer, will the job timer stop ? Because it happened to me once that I had to go out, and I closed the game, and when I came back I saw that I was late for the job and got no money when I finished it. Is there any solution to this?
