You can attend on a profile that was used on 1.46, you just must load a save on that profile that was on an earlier version. When the 'not compatible' popup appears it will give you the option to load an autosave, keep scrolling through the saves until you find one that is compatible. This is likely because many people are trying to download the update at once, making the servers slower. The only thing you can do is download the files very slowly, or wait a little while for less people to be downloading the update
