  2. So let me explain a bit. First of all, support for 1.38 takes so long because in the engine of ETS2/ATS huge changes have been made. Basically SCS merged two modules of their engine into one. Though I am on good way of getting support done within few days I think. Switching from 1.37 to 1.38 in multiplayer sounds really easy for someone who just plays this game. It is only switching two numbers, right? But: TruckersMP project has really tough architecture bases. We read and write data(memory) from/to engine. In order to be able to do that we need to have proper memory layout defined in our code. Since we do not have access to source code of the game, we need to kinda duplicate how it looks in source code at SCS. Though that is not easy task if you don't have direct access to that code. Really often it must be done by Reverse Engineering. You look at compiled source code, and trying to understand what it does, what it modifies, what it reads, etc. You can also guess basing on given data what are given variables (what are their names, what they mean). And you need to be very very precise in guessing. Any mismatch in data layout might lead to game crash. Also to make everything a bit simpler we use already defined functions which operate on data from the game. Though you must be very precise in terms of what data you put as parameters to such functions. Again any mismatch may lead to game crash, and it might be crash that is hard to trace. Because for example it is memory stomp (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_corruption). And there is really nothing you can do about it. Only getting PDB (debug symbols) file from SCS or source code access could speed up porting process. There is huge field to do in terms of ensuring many things on our side, but this will only help us with stability. If SCS changes code, then always we need to adjust our code to follow changes. So only that part makes development hard (working with prism engine). But consider this: SCS Software has full access to source code, and they haven't built multiplayer yet. Why? That is second part of the problem: engine & gameplay & network programming. To provide good mulitplayer you need to prepare stable systems. It is not really only about writing code. You need to provide design of systems - communication between systems - you need to couple somehow rendering, physics, gameplay, replication, sounds, AI, animations, vehicles simulation and more. More read here: http://ce.eng.usc.ac.ir/files/1511334027376.pdf Especially section : 1.6.14 Online Multiplayer/Networking Singleplayer games are already hard to create. Multiplayer additionally must serve gameplay with replicated objects with possible high latency, you need to take care of backend & security, etc. etc. I have seen something about hiring somebody full-time to do TruckersMP. So keep in mind what I wrote in previous paragraph + we need someone who knows C++ (very very good) / Assembler (good) / Reverse Engineering (very good) / Game Engines overall / Specific Systems - Gameplay & Replication deeply. Finding someone with that knowledge in ETS2 environment / simulation game is really very hard. First problem is that somebody with that knowledge usually goes working to big companies as they pay quite good, and provide good working conditions. Or such person just starts his own business as he knows what he does. Though situation is better now. We have ShawnCZek now, who is able to write some game code. And we have now stable solutions in terms of cowork on the same project. Standard DevOps is set on TruckersMP which makes simpler making experimental builds, code is build everytime when pushed to repository, we have full pipeline. And last thing is my job at CD Projekt RED. I started my job in February 2019. Consider this: we started Patreon in October 2019. Before Patreon my only income from TruckersMP were advertisements. And that wasn't good income. Now with Patreon it is better, but I work on this project already 7 years. If Patreon income will be constant/rising then I can think of getting back to TruckersMP full time. But for now it must stay as it is. I cannot just leave my current job for now.

  3. Hello, thank you for your question. If we don't have a public recruitment campaign for the Development team (core, network, or web), it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. We do recruit people via Feedback, should they choose to participate in the project. The reason we don't have it public because we will instantly get hundreds of applications from those who are not experienced in any development ("wannabe developers") or claiming to have an experience with no evidence of it (like CV or resume). The perfect example is our new web developer, Ratcho. He reached us with CV and expressed his interest. Eventually, he came onboard. Our requirements for a Core/Client Developer (not included the basic ones): - Strong knowledge of C++ and Assembly - Robust skills in disassembly process, including a good knowledge of disassembly software, like IDA Pro - Experience in a multiplayer game (or MMO) development - Experience with RakNet networking engine and/or ETS2/ATS modding is a huge plus All the Developers must sign a non-disclosure agreement, so we aren't scared to have new people in the team. It will be hard to come onboard though. Kind regards.

  4. Today we are very pleased to reveal a top-secret project that we've been working on for the past few months; one that is hugely special for us too. We are certain that our community of truck enthusiasts is familiar with an upcoming and still under-wraps truck from Western Star®, currently named and promoted as The NEXT Western Star. This new truck is built to thrive in the most rugged of environments, on a heritage of toughness, and built to take on anything. The most tested, durable, and toughest Western Star® truck to-date will be unveiled on the 29th of September. You can follow the countdown on their dedicated website. With great honor and pleasure, we can now announce that very shortly after The NEXT Western Star® truck releases, we will herald its arrival to American Truck Simulator too. We are bound to not show anything that has not yet been revealed by Western Star®, so please pardon us for not sharing any additional info or details with you today. We greatly appreciate this superb opportunity for such a collaboration with them; it is a first for SCS Software to work this closely with a leading American truck manufacturer on synchronizing the release of a brand-new truck. We are extremely proud to have established ourselves firmly within the trucking industry; earning Daimler Trucks North America's trust to get physical access to the prototype truck, which was necessary to start building this truck for our virtual world. Whilst not being able to show all our cards today, we trust that this comes as a truly exciting announcement (with a few teaser shots) for you as it is for us, to be working on The NEXT Western Star® truck. Stay tuned to the communication channels from us (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) or from Western Star® (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Website) to stay updated on this latest truck launch! Western Star is a trademark of Daimler Trucks North America LLC and is used under license to SCS Software s.r.o.View the full article

  5. Hi everyone! ? I have been reading through the last few pages of comments, and though I cannot answer all of them individually, I can see the main concern here is a lack of smaller updates on the progress. This is something I would like to address here, and continue to do so more regularly in the future. Although, bear in mind it won't be possible everyday, it's simply not possible. But if there is any significant change in development, I'll be sure to let you all know as soon as possible, right here in this topic. Just like everyone else, I'm a big supporter of TruckersMP and can understand why you are feeling frustrated and impatient with us. I often see it with a lot of my favourite game developers where we won't receive information or updates for months... it's awful! Luckily, my position here helps me to understand why we're in the current situation, so the aim with the development updates is to be level with you guys and share all the details we know. With that said, here is what's currently going on. While on the surface it seems no progress is being made, behind the scenes I have been in contact with mwl4 regularly to chase on the current progress. As it turns out, we are edging closer to 1.38, but there's plenty more work to do yet. Here's a little insight to help you understand the current progress: There are 3 stages to the porting process: Functions porting, classes porting, hooks porting. The first stage is what takes the longest. Weeks, months even. Last weekend a lot of work went into the second stage, so hopefully that will be done at some point this week. Then it will be the third stage, which mwl4 reckons will take only a few days. After this stage, the multiplayer client will be working on the latest build (1.38), but there are a few more days of bug fixing and testing required (checking for broken functionality, game crashes, etc). Our team of over 180 people will have access to a development environment, and are given specific tasks by the developers. Other than that, the aim is to essentially try to break the client. Test everything you possibly can, and if something doesn't work, they report it and it is fixed. If it can't be fixed in a reasonable time and isn't a game-breaking bug, it's taken note of and will be worked on and pushed as a hot-fix at a later date. An example of this is the sound bug which was presented in 1.37 (this is still being looked into, but is a very, very complex issue). With this current progress then, it appears there are only roughly two weeks until it's ready. However, take this with a pinch of salt. We are not promising a release date, as in this kind of development, any damaging bugs or issues can cause a setback to anywhere from a few hours, days, or weeks. So, I hope this smaller update was somewhat useful to you. I will spend some time with mwl4 in a few days to check the current progress, and report back if anything significant is brought up. Until then, stay safe and keep on being awesome. ?

+info: https://blog.scssoft.com/2020/09/the-next-western-star.html

  13. Background to this question Back in April 2020, the Add-On Team reconfigured the Calais-Duisburg area in an effort to improve road safety at some of the most notorious junctions along the C-D route. This made me wonder if there were other areas of the map, particularly other high-population regions, that could be redesigned in a similar fashion. Question Are there any plans to reconfigure other areas of the vanilla ETS2 map in places outside of the Calais-Duisburg area? If so, which areas are being planned to be redeveloped in the close future, and if not, what are the issues that are related to such projects?

  14. Hey Truckers, As the days get longer and the temperatures rise, it can only mean one thing. We are in Summer! After the great success of both the Winter mod and the Spring mod on TruckersMP, we have teamed up with Grimes once again to support the Summer mod on both American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2. In order to use this modification on our network, there are a few steps you need to follow. As we have done previously in addition to the mod creators request, you will have to download the mod from a third-party website. You can find all the information on how to install this modification on our knowledge base article: How to install the summer mod As with the previous editions of the Grimes environmental mods, this modification is optional and not required to play on our network. On top of the Summer environmental mod, we will also support the two optional addons for the mod: Darker Night Skies and Default HDR Bloom. We are happy to announce that this modification is also compatible with ProMods, so it is accessible all over the network! As we do move into Summer and supporting this mod, this does mean that we have disabled support for the Spring environmental mod. Make sure to share your screenshots using the Summer mod with us on social media at @TruckersMP on Twitter and @truckersmp.official on Instagram. Have a great summer from all of us here at the TruckersMP Team. --> View post on homepage

  15. Hello @Shen Yang! Welcome to TruckersMP Forum! Active bans are those you received during the past 12 months. It also serves as a rule for punishing longer. Example: the time of the first 3 bans within the last 12 months is at the discretion of the Game Moderator, the 4th ban (regardless of the reason) will be 1 month and the 5th active ban will be permanent. If you still have any questions, do not hesitate to ask us! Sincerely, Victor Hugo.

As you rightly mention, people think it is simple, that they don't do it because they don't want to, but I, personally I, value this work and its effort. So all my support and patience for the development team. I can play with the 1.37, the rest... will come when I have to come. Have a good weekend.?

But TMP is just cool to play and i love the community aswell. so the 1.38 support update is really worth to wait. I can wait even longer for the update because i really dont mind. i can be patient to wait for the update. So yeah, thanks for everything. Dont give up guys! (sorry for my bad english but yeah lol)

  23. Hey, I organized this Q&A and will try to answer your questions as good as possible. 1. This has been my second Q&A as a Community Manager. When planning this one, I had a look at the previous Q&As. As you might have realized, the rules and main flow of this Q&A is the same as most previous ones. I tried to improve this Q&A by moving/trashing topics like "I have been banned unfairly" as soon as possible. These topics are questions but none that need to be answered here. In the previous Q&As, these topics were kept as part of the Q&A and archived later one instead of just forwarding the user to the appeal or feedback pages. I have seen many good and interesting questions and I am happy that overall, replies by the managers didn't take long. Especially in the last two Q&A's some questions were pending for multiple weeks. 2. Of course, this Q&A was not perfect. Some questions are still waiting for a reply (most from Project Management) but all in all, I am happy with it. We (the Community Management) will use the questions to rework our "Frequently suggested things" topic in the suggestion section. For the future, we want to reach more users and provide better answers. We have done Q&As on our Instagram page before where we can easily reach way more users than here (-> https://www.instagram.com/stories/highlights/17901642496513081/) Nonetheless, answers here can be more detailed than on Instagram or Twitter. We will keep Q&As here. 3. The main challenge is to keep the Q&A section clean from ban complaints but still find a way how people can complain about specific rules or ask questions regarding bans in general. Additionally, someone needs to sort all questions that are leftover and contact the respective management team. This involves a lot of time. Luckily, @TFM DJ ccowie helped a lot at the beginning of the Q&A. This is only my point of view. If you have something to add, suggest or comment, you are very welcome to contact me and the other Community Managers using our feedback system here: https://truckersmp.com/feedback See you next time! Regards, Lasse

  24. Hello everyone, The update to 1.38 is taking a while, this is a fact. As a community we must be more patient and understand the context, a good part of us understand practically nothing about codes and certainly would not be able to point out quicker ways for this update to arrive. Everyone here or at least a good part has tasks out of the game, this also reflects the support, development team (...) pressing on will not help much but will create even more excitement. It's frustrating, I know, but there's nothing else we can do but wait for things to be done correctly, after all, we don't want a flawed environment. Thank you very much to the entire team engaged in the project, I cannot help with the codes but I send positive energy here. Peace and good

  26. Hi, thank you for your questions! I was not an Event Team Member! I joined the TruckersMP Team in April 2016 as a Forum Moderator. However, in late 2017 when I was a Community Manager, I started work to create what is today known as the Event Team. This was officially introduced in March 2018. I accepted the role of Project Coordinator because after over six years in the community I felt my unique experience and knowledge could be of some help on a higher level than Senior Event Manager. I will always have a passion for events - that was never lost. However, as the community and team grew, the project manager was finding the project increasingly more demanding, so more support was required to ensure the project continued moving forwards. TruckersMP is what I am passionate about. It's a major part of my life, so I am keen to pursue the new challenge! I've found that I can still put a lot of my current skills to use in my new role - which is good! For example, writing news blogs, work involving community/official events, add-ons, media, community management, and so on. The tasks and work I do are different, though. Now it is very much project oriented, rather than solely events oriented. I have to adapt my skills and experience to every area of the project now. Indeed! As I mentioned previously, I still love events, but I find it exciting and challenging to now do work and make decisions that ultimately affect the overall project. Since being in this new role for over three months now, I've already achieved some goals which I set out to do. They are mostly internal, which I cannot discuss here, but in public a big goal for me was the Development Updates. I think they have been a big success and am keen to continue pushing them further as the project grows. For the future, I would like to pursue relations with the community further, and take my involvement in development updates further. Particularly, addressing development/updates on live streams/videos. Real life meetups are something else I would like to do more of with the community. I have met quite a lot of the community and team in real life, and have made unforgettable memories, so doing this more regularly and travelling to other countries is something I'm looking forward to doing. Of course the current pandemic is not making this possible, but maybe next year? Thanks again for the questions, if you have any follow-up questions, my inbox is open. Stay safe!

  28. First off, I don't want to put any hate towards the dev team or really any of the team. I've played the mod since the day it came out for ATS and combined between games I probably have over 700 hours in MP. I love the mod and have been thinking about becoming a patron, but I agree with many of the concerns voiced in this thread. I am disappointed by the lack of communication as a whole from this... situation we'll call it. Since the original news post we have heard little to nothing and what we did hear was something mwl4 took time out of his job and development to write. I feel that the news team should have better communication with developers in relaying information. I don't want full length blog posts, I just want a quick sentence every once in awhile like "Hey, we hit a small roadblock, add a day or two to our estimate" or "Well, we found a much easier way to do the part we were dreading, take off a bit of time". Not exactly like that but you get the point. Now onto the development side- I feel like you guys should try to get into contact with SCS about a potential partnership of sorts. If so much of the time is spent reverse engineering to find the source code, having a communication line with SCS to have that code to start with would, in theory, speed up the process a lot. As others have mentioned, without multiplayer much of the ATS/ETS2 playerbase is gone, so it'd be in SCS' best interest to partner. I understand their concerns with doing it themselves and I think you guys have done a great job of getting things generally working as a system, so there isn't a need for SCS to redo it themselves. @BigBahamut /:\GER/:\, you make great points and I agree with most all of what you've said. You're being respectful about it and I think that's a great thing.

At the requests and wishes of many players who love trucks and buses, we dream one day that they add one or two buses as they added to the skoda, there may be a small possibility, even in a separate server but we would be very happy to several of the community, we hope that Some of you are thinking of adding even a bus to the server, without more than saying, greetings to the entire TruckersMP team from Argentina

  32. Hi! Not too long ago I bought the Special Transport DLC, and when I tried to select a special delivery in TruckersMP, the server kicked me. So I went to read the rules, and I read that it is not possible to select a special delivery. But then I thought: Why not allow the players to be the escort vehicles??? (But of course, players who have some knowledge about what maneuvers to perform and what to do as an escort vehicle) That mechanic could give TruckersMP a lot of playability, and it would make the Sköda car more useful. But allow special deliveries within a limit of hours, for example, from 03:00 to 08:00, and from 15:00 to 20:00, having 5 hours to select special deliveries, and 7 hours to only select normal ones, running on game time and not on actual time

  33. I'll be as transparent as I can while writing my response here from the Game Management's point of view. The main reasons as to why save editing was allowed again can be seen below: Complaints from the save editing community, punishing the entire save editing community just because of a few individuals abusing the rule(s) in place; Staff members not knowing what's allowed and what isn't; X modification not affecting other players; Focusing too much on save editing despite the fact that it doesn't cause any issues in most cases. Restricting something that doesn't affect other players is not really beneficial. I'm sure you can understand that we cannot teach players or members of our staff save editing within a day, it requires a lot of knowledge and dedication to know what's allowed and what isn't. I'll go as far as saying that if you don't put any efforts into learning the basics of save editing, you will not learn it and you'll have a very hard time. The type of question we got on almost a daily basis was “Is this allowed”? - Staff members even questioned whether double or triple trailers were allowed, despite the fact that the answer could've been found in the rules. The trainee phase covers save editing and a few scenarios, but as mentioned above, we can only teach the very basics, the rest is something the staff member needs to work on. I learned save editing by watching YouTube videos and trying to make modifications myself. It took me a very long time with endless game crashes, but you'll get used to it. I'll quote rule §3.5 and my personal opinion: It's hard to track whether X player has more than one duplicate without verifying it through the logs, and we cannot rely on our players as it's easy to manipulate something to get another player banned. The last part of the rule confused a lot of staff members as well. Each time we changed something regarding save editing, it caused yet another confusion among the staff team. While people were punished for it which I know is very annoying and can lead to accidents and similar, the volume can be turned down in the game settings. Staff members didn't know the default positions for horns. Again staff members didn't know the default positions and blinking lights can be turned off in the game settings. With the current rules in place, we can still punish people for it if it causes major issues such as FPS drops and similar. I won't hide the fact that I personally dislike most save editing such as: Floating cows and similar; Too many duplicated items or hookups; Lowering your truck or trailer with smaller wheels (it looks stupid, don't do it); Clipping parts; Double or triple trailers in high-populated-areas. Not everything is allowed at the moment. The vast majority of the potential issues are still covered under §3, and more can be added depending on how players treat the rules in place. If we see an increase of abusive modifications, more restrictions will follow. For instance, If you have a long trailer and cannot safely handle it while taking a turn or similar, you will end up being banned for reckless driving or blocking depending on the situation. The last part of the rule only applies to very extreme modifications which may not be covered by the rules. Bans of this type are only issued following a rigorous investigation of the evidence and conduct confirming that the modification has no place on SIM servers. Additionally, we thoroughly review the circumstances behind the enforcement and once the Game Management agrees on something, a punishment will follow. Here's an example. We tried limiting save editing to an absolute minimum, but we noticed that it doesn't really need a restriction as long as it doesn't cause issues to other players. While we've seen nice looking trucks, we've also seen trucks with tons of duplicates and Christmas trees. Spending so many resources and time into something that doesn't really affect anyone is a waste of time really. That time can be put into reviewing reports, observing high or low populated areas or interacting with the community. I'll discuss with my colleagues whether we need another wave of restrictions since I've personally seen a few ridiculous modifications such as triple trailers with floating cows in it. This is something that can be done, but it needs to be discussed first. We're always open for suggestions from the community and staff, so if you think that something should change, suggest it, and we'll look into it. When suggesting, consider the following: Be courteous and try to convince us of the potential benefits of your suggestion; Provide constructive criticism as to why it should be added or changed; Add some potential benefits of the given suggestion; Make sure you give good advice to the respective department in a polite manner; Use the word we whenever possible, speaking on behalf of the community. Hope this helps!

  37. Hello there, please take your time. It's better when everything goes well afterwards, than when you have to fix everything. I like to wait and am very grateful that there is a possibility to drive ETS and ATS in multiplayer mode. You guys are doing a great job. Keep up the good work!

  38. When starting the game with DirectX11 and then tabbing out of the window, it often happens to freeze the game when tabbing back in. One can still hear the truck sounds, but the screen doesn't move at all. The only fix is to close and restart the game. This issue does not occur when using OpenGL.
